Wicked: For Good, also called Wicked: Part Two, is the 2025 musical sequel to Wicked (2024). Jon M. Chu directed. Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox wrote the script. It adapts the second act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman.
The film premiered at Suhai Music Hall in São Paulo on November 4, 2025, and opened in the United States on November 21, 2025.
Plot
Set in Oz before and during The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the story follows Elphaba and Glinda after they become known as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. The stage show was loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, itself a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s book and the 1939 film.
Cast
Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from the first film. Universal and Marc Platt, producers of the stage musical, first announced a film version in 2012. After long delays, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Chu was hired and Erivo and Grande were cast in 2021. The story was split into two movies so plot points and character time would not be cut.
Box office and awards
Wicked: For Good grossed $540 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. It is the second-highest-grossing Oz film and the second-highest-grossing musical adaptation, both behind the first Wicked movie. The National Board of Review and the American Film Institute named it among the top ten films of 2025. It was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and two BAFTA Awards.
