The Madison, Taylor Sheridan’s intimate new drama starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, premieres on Paramount+ on March 14. The six-episode series arrives in two batches of three and has already finished a second season — a rare move that has critics and the industry talking before the first episode even airs.

What is The Madison and why it matters

The Madison follows the Clyburn family as they uproot their lives from New York City to the Madison River valley of southwest Montana after a devastating tragedy. Sheridan — best known for Yellowstone and Tulsa King — developed the series as an original drama; it began life as a Yellowstone spinoff but evolved into a standalone story, one Paramount+ calls Sheridan’s most intimate work to date.

When and how to watch

The first three episodes drop Saturday, March 14 at 3 a.m. ET on Paramount+. The final three episodes arrive a week later, March 21, also at 3 a.m. ET.

The series is exclusive to Paramount+. Subscriptions start at $8.99/month for the ad-supported Essential tier and $13.99/month for the ad-free Premium plan (which includes Showtime and live CBS). Viewers can also access Paramount+ through third-party trials such as DIRECTV’s five-day trial or Walmart+’s 30-day trial, which include Paramount+ Essential.

Cast, creative team and behind-the-scenes notes

Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Stacy Clyburn, the family matriarch, with Kurt Russell as her husband, Preston. The ensemble also includes Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Alaina Pollack and Danielle Vasinova.

Sheridan and Pfeiffer serve as executive producers. Kurt Russell has praised the project and Sheridan’s writing, saying, “I really like what The Madison is. It’s a smart show,” later adding, “Taylor’s excellent, and Michelle is great, and she’s really great in this show. Talking about awards — I think they’re going to be looking Michelle’s way.” Russell also described the series as “a very different show for Taylor in that it’s a very female-gaze-oriented show.”

Why two seasons were filmed

Scheduling conflicts led the creative team to an unusual decision: Paramount+ filmed two seasons back-to-back. Russell explained that because he couldn’t shift his other commitments, “Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor were able to get together with the people at Paramount+ and said, ‘Well, let’s do two seasons instead of just one.’” That choice allowed the production to rearrange shooting so Russell’s first-season scenes could be completed as needed.

Early buzz and what to expect next

Industry reaction has been cautiously optimistic, in part because of the pedigree involved — Sheridan’s series track record and Pfeiffer’s leading performance. With a full second season already in the can, Paramount+ is positioned to keep momentum if the show connects with audiences.

Paramount+ has said the already-filmed Season 2 is expected to arrive in 2027. For viewers who want to explore the broader Sheridan universe, earlier Yellowstone entries stream on Peacock, while other franchise offshoots are available on Paramount+.

As The Madison begins its two-week rollout, viewers and awards watchers will be listening closely for Pfeiffer’s performance and for how Sheridan’s quieter, family-focused storytelling lands with the streaming audience.
