Plot: What We Know
Folie à Deux (French for “shared madness”) follows Arthur Fleck’s trial for the murders committed in the first film. While incarcerated in Arkham State Hospital, he meets Lee Quinzel (Lady Gaga), a fellow patient who becomes enamored with his Joker persona. Their shared delusion manifests as elaborate musical sequences — a bold stylistic departure from the gritty realism of the original.
The film explores themes of identity, media spectacle, and the thin line between performance and reality. Phillips has described it as “a movie where the music is an extension of the characters’ fractured psyches.”
