Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is the 2026 feature continuation of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau directed and co-wrote it with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. Lucasfilm and Fairview Entertainment produced it, and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures released it.
The film premiered on May 14, 2026, at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles and opened in the United States on May 22, 2026.
Plot
The story is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu are enlisted by the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt. In exchange, they are offered information on a target. On screen the title appears as The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Cast
Pedro Pascal stars as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian. Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder also portrayed the character on set. Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt. The cast also includes Jonny Coyne, Martin Scorsese, and Sigourney Weaver, with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hemky Madera, Shirley Henderson, and Steve Blum in supporting roles.
Favreau and Filoni had written a fourth season of the series by February 2023. Production stalled during the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes, and Lucasfilm then chose to make this film instead of staying on the series plan alone.
Box office
The movie grossed $345.8 million worldwide. That total did not meet Disney’s expectations, and it stands as the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film.
Where to Watch in the US
The film already played US theaters starting May 22, 2026. Disney distributed it, so US viewers should check Disney+ plus current digital rental and purchase stores. A single permanent streaming window was not confirmed in the sources used for this piece. (Affiliate link placeholder)
