Thunderbolts Release Date
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts assembles a team of anti-heroes and reformed villains for a May 2, 2025 theatrical release. Directed by Jake Schreier, the film brings together characters from across the MCU for a gritty, ensemble-driven mission.

Plot: What We Know
Thunderbolts follows a group of morally ambiguous operatives recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Louis-Dreyfus) for high-risk missions the Avengers won’t touch. Think Suicide Squad but with established MCU characters who have complicated histories. The team includes assassins, super-soldiers, and former villains — all with their own agendas.
The film is expected to explore themes of redemption, government oversight, and what happens when you put unstable people in a room together. Sentry (Lewis Pullman), a Superman-level hero with a dark alter ego (The Void), adds cosmic stakes to the grounded espionage thriller tone.
Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Paper Towns) directs from a script by Eric Pearson (Black Widow). Kevin Feige produces. The film was originally slated for 2024 but shifted to May 2025 for VFX and scheduling.
